Shirley K. Morgenthaler
Shirley K. Morgenthaler, PhD, serves as distinguished Professor of Education at Concordia University Chicago in River Forest, Illinois. Her publications include Right from the Start: A Parent’s Guide to the Young Child’s Faith Development, Children and Worship: Lessons from Research, and Exploring the Spiritual Formation of Children: Foundational Issues. She served as president of the Chicago Association for the Education of Young Children and the Illinois Association of Early Childhood Teacher Educators. She serves as the Chair of the Board of Education for St. John’s Lutheran Church and School. Her career in early childhood education began in 1968 when she founded and taught the first preschool class at St. John’s. She can be reached at email@example.com.
Jennifer Behnke is an alumni of St. John’s Lutheran School, and has been a member of the congregation since her Confirmation at St. John’s. Her son is also a St. John’s graduate, and a member of the congregation. She has served on the Board of Education for 3 terms, and has served the Congregation in other leadership positions during the last 20 years. Jennifer is the Customer Service Manager for HA International. Jennifer holds a BA in Industrial Psychology from Michigan State University
Katrina Murphy has been an K-12 Art teacher since 1992 when she received her teaching certificate from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She also holds a BFA from the University of Illinois C/U and a Masters in Educational Administration from Governors State University. She is passionate about sharing the love of Jesus at the Chicago public school where she teaches special needs children and second language learners. Katrina is married to Jim and they have two children who attend St. Johns school. They have been members of St. Johns Church since 2007 and are thankful everyday for the Christ- centered, servant leadership based education their children receive at St. Johns.
Lissette Moreno-Kuri has been at St. John’s Lutheran School/Church since 2005. Lissette is married to John Kuri and has three children. Her youngest child Joy, will be graduating this year. Additionally, her two older children, Faith and Marten graduated from St. John’s Lutheran School. Lissette has enjoyed participating in many events, committee’s and fundraisers. She invites parents to get involved and is available to new parents that may have questions. Lissette has a B.A. and M.A. in Educational Leadership-Higher Education from Northeastern Illinois University.
Rebecca O’Connor has served on the Board of Education since 2011 and has been involved in other leadership and volunteer opportunities at St. John’s church since 1998. She values the high academic and Christian standards of the school and hopes to build and maintain St. John’s tradition of excellence through her participation on this board. Rebecca / Ms. O’Connor is an alumni of St. John’s and has three children who are enrolled here. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Valparaiso University and M.A.T. from Concordia University, Chicago. She works as a Spanish teacher at Hinsdale Central High School and lives in the La Grange area with her husband and children.
Art Schroeder has been a member of St. John’s since birth. He was baptized in the old white church, attended St. John’s school from Kindergarten thru eighth grade, graduated and was confirmed in 1975. Art then graduated from Lyons Township High School in 1979. He is currently President of Associate General Laboratories, Inc. and has served on the Board of Education since 2011.
Desiree Trapp has been a part of the St. John’s Lutheran School family since 2012, and recently became an official church member in 2016. She is president of PTO for the 2016-2017 school year, and served as the Secretary for the 2015-2016 school year. She is a new member to the School Board. Desiree graduated with a Bachelor’s of Business from Trinity Christian College. While she currently works as a stay-at-home mom, she volunteers for several of St. John’s events and fundraisers and is committed to helping the school flourish through her involvement with the PTO and the School Board. Her daughter, Samara, attends St. John’s and is in 7th grade. Her son, Jeremy, will start preschool at St. John’s next year. Her bonus daughter will be graduating from Maine South High School this year. She lives in Brookfield with her husband, Jason, and their children.
Kevin West graduated from DePaul University with a B.A. in Psychology and earned an Education Specialist (Ed. S.) degree in School Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. He is currently a school psychologist in Orland School District 135 and works in two junior high schools within the district. Before changing careers, he worked in the futures trading industry for the second largest privately owned clearing firm within the industry for approximately twelve years. Kevin and his wife (Candice) are members of St. John’s Lutheran Church and have three children. Two of their children are currently enrolled at St. John’s in the pre-k and kindergarten programs.
